Intumescent fireproof coating is a thin decorative paint that stays invisible under normal conditions — but reacts when exposed to fire. Under heat, the coating swells into a thick, insulating char layer that shields the steel from rapid temperature rise, buying time for evacuation, fire response and structural integrity. Unlike cementitious coatings, it leaves a clean, paintable finish on exposed steelwork.
Why It Matters
Steel loses strength as temperature rises. In a building fire, unprotected beams and columns can reach critical temperatures within minutes. Fireproof coating delays that temperature rise, keeping the steel frame within its design capacity for the period required by the project's fire engineering specification. The required fire rating is defined by your design code and fire engineer — we tailor the coating system to that requirement and document the application accordingly.
Workshop-Applied vs. Site-Applied
| Workshop-Applied (Our Way) | Site-Applied | |
|---|---|---|
| Environment | Controlled factory conditions | Weather-dependent |
| Quality | Uniform film thickness, inspected before delivery | Uneven coverage, site-dependent |
| Site labour | None — members arrive ready to erect | Scaffolding, spray teams, delays |
| Schedule | Coating is part of fabrication lead time | Added on top of erection programme |
| Documentation | Coating records travel with the fabrication file | Split across suppliers and paperwork |
What We Supply
We are a steel fabricator first, a coating applicator second. The structural steel members — beams, columns, trusses, plate girders, fabricated connections and custom components — are cut, welded and prepared in our own facility, then coated with the intumescent system in the same workflow. You deal with one supplier for the steel and the fire protection, rather than coordinating a fabricator and a separate coating contractor.
How a Project Runs
1. Review — your drawings, fire rating requirement and connection details are checked before production starts.
2. Specify — a coating scheme is prepared for your project's fire requirement and surface environment, and confirmed by you before application.
3. Fabricate and coat — steelwork is cut, welded and prepared, then the intumescent system is applied in the workshop under controlled surface and humidity conditions.
4. Deliver — coated members are inspected, marked, packed and shipped to your site ready for direct erection.
Where It's Used
This system serves building frameworks (columns, beams, trusses in commercial and industrial structures), industrial steelwork (factories, warehouses, plants), and infrastructure steel (platforms, supports, exposed members) — anywhere the frame needs both structural steel and reliable fire protection, supplied and delivered as one package.
Standards & Compliance
Fabrication, welding coordination and quality documentation follow AS/NZS 5131 and AS/NZS 1554, and our production system operates under ISO 9001 with additional backing from CE/EN 1090, ASTM, AISC, AWS D1.1 and AASHTO — accepted on projects across Australia, New Zealand and overseas markets.
