Our core business is structural steel. We cut, weld and finish welded beams, columns, trusses, plate girders, built-up sections and custom fabricated connections to project requirements — not a catalogue range. Section size, length, hole positions and connection details are all engineered and machined in-house, with trial assembly available for complex frames. The intumescent system is then applied to these members as an integrated step in the same workshop workflow.
Why Shop-Applied Matters
Intumescent fireproofing is only as good as the surface it goes onto and the conditions it cures in. Applying it in our workshop means shot-blasted, primed steel in a controlled environment — consistent film thickness, no rain or humidity interruptions, and every coated member inspected before it leaves the floor. On-site spraying, by contrast, fights the weather, depends on scaffolding and access, and leaves quality uneven across the frame.

One Flow, Not Two
The typical project splits the work: fabricator delivers bare steel, then a separate coating contractor mobilises to site. Our flow is continuous — fabrication ends where coating begins, under one team and one production schedule. There is no gap between "steel delivered" and "steel protected", no argument over who is responsible for a defective coat, and one set of documents covering both.
How a Project Runs
Review and specification — project requirements, fire rating requirement and environmental exposure are checked before production.
Fabrication — members are cut, drilled, welded and trial-fitted to project requirements under AS/NZS 5131 & 1554.
Coating — after shot blasting to Sa2.5 and primer, the intumescent system is applied and cured in-plant.
Inspection and delivery — coating thickness and dimensions verified, members marked, packed and shipped for direct erection.

Quality Control & Inspection Matrix
| Stage | Inspection Item | Method / Standard | Record |
|---|---|---|---|
| Material Receipt | Steel grade, heat number, mechanical properties | Mill certificates to EN 10204 3.1/3.2 or AS/NZS equivalent | Material traceability log |
| Cutting & Drilling | Member length, hole diameter, hole position | Dimensional check against drawings | Inspection report |
| Assembly & Fit-up | Geometry, squareness, alignment | Jig verification, trial assembly if required | Fit-up record |
| Welding | Weld size, profile, penetration | Visual inspection, WPS/PQR compliance | Weld map & welder ID |
| NDT | Internal / surface defects | UT, MT, PT as specified | NDT report |
| Surface Preparation | Cleanliness, roughness | Sa2.5 / SSPC-SP10 | Surface prep record |
| Coating | Primer + intumescent DFT, uniformity, adhesion | DFT gauge, visual, pull-off test as specified | Coating inspection report |
| Final Inspection | Dimensions, marking, packing | Dimensional check, marking verification | Final inspection report |
Materials & Standards
Steel is sourced from qualified mills with traceable certificates (Q235B, Q345B, S355JR, ASTM A572 Gr.50, or AS/NZS 3678 / EN 10025 equivalents per project). Welding follows qualified procedures to AWS D1.1 or AS/NZS 1554, with NDT (UT, MT, PT) on critical joints as specified. The intumescent system is specified to your project's required fire rating and site environment — fire rating is project-specific, supported by the coating manufacturer's fire test documentation supplied with the project file.
Where It Works
This package suits commercial building frames, industrial plants and warehouses, infrastructure steelwork and exposed architectural structures — especially export projects where site access is limited, the schedule is tight, and one supplier for steel and fire protection removes a whole layer of coordination.
